The African Pitta must rate as one of Africa's 'most
wanted' birds - a secretive, skulking bird that favours dense
thickets with a good ground cover of leaf litter in low-lying
areas such as the Zambezi Valley and South Luangwa National Park
where it comes to breed during the summer rains.
Despite its secretive habits it is relatively easy to find once one knows its clear whistle
and is best searched for during December and January.
