Regarded by many birders as one of the most elusive
birds to find, this spectacular owl has a restricted distribution
along the major river systems in southern Africa. This bird was
recorded in the grounds of Mfuwe Lodge in Zambia's South Luangwa
National Park where a pair is resident. The adults have a deep
humming hoot, but the well grown chick gives this eerie scream
particularly once it leaves the nest and expects the adults to
continue feeding it.
